Army Chaplain

I Tim Ice, am excited to announce that I have been accepted by the U.S. Army to be a Chaplain candidate in the United States Army. What that means is I am going to be a Lieutenant, and when I finish school be a Chaplain. Until I finish school I am considered a Chaplain Candidate, which means I am basically waiting, not able to be used yet because I do not have a masters. So needless to say I am excited and just wanted to let people know about the future ministry that God has opened up for me.

Books I read reasontly

I have as most students been assigned some mandatory books to read this semester. I have read three books on preaching. Two book I read for another class taught that Christians can be demon possesed, and another with some weird views on what prayer is. Overall the preaching books were the best books I have read resontly. MacArthur's "Preaching" book is a book I would recomend. Secondly, I would recomend Calvin Miller's book on "Preaching" for a look at how to preach from narative passages. He is not concerned in that book with the Pauline epistles or other New Testament epistles that lend them selves to propositional preaching but with the parts of the Bible that are narative. If you are wanting to preach these two books would be a good combination for starting to understand homiletics.

Ministry focus

Young adults,

This is Tim Ice. I have been thinking about a outreach for the young adults group. I think it would be a neat idea to focus the young adults ministry towards Lynchburg College. I think it would be good to focus our efforts of evangelism upon the students of Lynchburg College. I choose Lynchburg College since most in our group are college students so we would relate well. Secondly, I think it would be good to focus our efforts upon a specific group. Any thoughts?

VBS Follow Up

I think that the gospel resinated with several of the children. While no one came forward to talk to me. It was evident on two girls faces that they understood and were disturbed by the fact that they needed to have their sins forgiven. Hopefully this seed will mature into salvation. VBS has been a fun and crazy time.

Salvation vbs

Tonight is the last VBS night and we should all be in prayer for the salvation of those in attendance. Tonight Andrew and I will be doing a message focused on the Gospel. THe gospel has been going out all week and I am sure of 4 children that need to come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

ummmmmmm

Instability can often come upon us. One thing that I prided my self in was the ability to just work through hard situations in life. When a moment of adversity came upon me my attitude was to lower my sholder and run through it even if it took a lot of work. However sometimes I feel like even I get beat down too much. That even though I tell my self I can get through whatever it is because its life. The reality is that I fail a lot. I fall flat on my face so many times. Its not the falling that is so bad. Its always been my fear of not being able to get back up. Is this perhaps what God wishes to teach me. Is a great fall that disables my ability to get back up what God wishes to give me, in order that I might learn with my heart that it is God who enables me to make my way through these hard times and even the easy times? I have been told that I see black and white more than grey. I find that this is true most of the time. Most of the time the black and white is good. However some grey is some areas of our lives may be what causes us to depend on God more. The inability to truely know may push us to admit we are nothing compared to our God.

Daniel chapter 4 and my life is what has inspired this posting.

Summer Bible study at OFRBC

Tonight, July 19 2007 will be the start of a summer Bible study. The fall and spring Bible studies have been a great time of refreshment and encouragement in God's word I am confident this will be equally valuable. I would like to recommend an article if you are interested in studying the book of Romans in an in-depth manner. "Eternal Son, Davidic Son, Messianic Son: An exposition of Romans 1:1-7" By David J. MacLeod published in Bibliotheca Sacra 162 (Jan-March 2005) pg. 76-94. I found this be a good read. There is Greek in this article but if you’re not a student of the Greek do not fear. Most of the Greek has the English preceding or following it and word studies are done throughout the article explaining the Greek. In other words if you cannot read Greek you can still read and benefit from this article. I hope that you will study Romans or any part of scripture and all it to change you.

God Bless,
Tim

Ministry challenge

This week I want to challenge everyone to purpose to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with one person. After this is done come on and post a comment about your experience, so that the body of Christ might be encouraged.

Romans 10:13“Whoever will call upon the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Romans 10:14 How then shall they call upon Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?

God can use anyone to take his gospel anywhere. Perhaps he wants you to take his gospel to Starbucks, Panera Bread, Peaks View Park, or wherever he might take you.

Summer Ministries at OFRBC college

For those who are going to be here this summer I would like to have an active outreach program. Focused on the evening’s hours of going out and witnessing and building relationships with those we work with during the summer. I know for me that part of my job will be managing a pool in the area. The other might be lifeguarding at Liberty but hopefully somewhere else. Places of work I know are great places to be able to share Christ. The thought of starting to do some open air preaching has crossed my mind. I know also that possible talking to the teams I play softball with can be a possible point of contact for sharing the Gospel. Really just want to encourage you to reach out and love people and especially share the gospel. Romans 10:14 “How then shall they call upon Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?”

Other ministries????

Who is interested in doing work with the homeless? Who is interested in doing any ministry outside of the Church? Whoever is interested in doing a ministry please post your comments. Tell us any idea you have for ministry.

Childrens Ministry

Any one that is going to be in Lynchburg for the summer and is interested in working with children let me know. Perhaps the more effective thing to do is to get in contact with Andrew at church. Andrew plays the electric guitar and teaches the high school group in the room behind us.

Test posting and announcement

This Saturday at three o clock there will be a party at the Settje's house. They live on 205 Powtan. This is off Timberlake. When driving down Timberlake take a right or left into the street next to the bank of America (Powtan). This is also close to Big Lots. If you want to bring a drink or Chip that is okay but not needed.
